The Best Paddle Boards for (SUP) Yoga of 2021

These days, you will find people practising yoga in all sorts of amazing ways and places. We have seen everything from goat yoga to yes, you guessed it, stand-up paddleboard (commonly known as “SUP”) yoga. This guide aims to help you select the best paddle board for yoga for your wants and needs.

By balancing on a paddleboard out on the water, your yoga sessions can benefit from some added zen and relaxation (providing you don’t fall in!). It can also be challenging and fun for those looking for a new experience or hobby.

A good rule of thumb for those new to the hobby is to look for a board between 5 and 6 inches thick that also has a wide deck pack (that takes up at least 3/4 of the board). These features will allow you to have slightly better balance and grip which will prove invaluable when trying to get in those hard to reach positions. For beginners, go with an inflatable option which are more forgiving and better for buoyancy.

Yoga Paddle Board Buyers Guide

Best (SUP) paddle boards for yoga.

Below you will find information about the best boards we could find for stand-up paddle boarding yoga. We strictly reviewed each one to ensure that you can find a good option for you, regardless of your skill level.

The 10 Best SUP Boards for Yoga

1. SereneLife Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board

*Details last updated on 2021-08-02

A great well balanced option that comes with all the gear you could ever need. The thick design makes it significantly more buoyant which is vital when it comes to practising yoga out on the water.

Control

This cost-effective paddleboard is somewhat slower than its counterparts. The performance is decent; however, because the board is only 10′ long, it is slower than many other boards in its class. The triple fins on the bottom of the board are easy to maneuver and control.

Stability

Because the board is only 10′ long, it is not as stable as many similar boards. This board includes a non-slip, padded deck to keep the board stable. Although the board can handle up to 275lbs, you will experience more stability if the person is lighter.

Pros
  • Well balanced board, great for stability.
  • Triple fin designs makes it easier to turn and control the board.
  • Non-slip deck pad.
  • Maximum load of up to 275lbs.
Cons
  • At 10′ long, this option is slightly smaller than other options which can mean it that at times it is less table (especially if you aren’t so grounded to begin with!).

2. FunWater Inflatable SUP

*Details last updated on 2021-08-02

A strong contender for yogis of all levels, from beginners to experts. The board comes with removable fins and a number of key accessories that will allow you to have the most enjoyable yoga sessions out on the lake, river, or even ocean!

Control

The FunWater Inflatable SUP offers affordability and performance in a single package. With its three removable fins, it is easy to keep this board traveling in a straight line. Coming in at 10’6″ long and being lightweight allows for easy control in almost any water condition. Increased relaxation, improved breathing control, and improved technique are advantages of practicing Yoga on a paddleboard.

Stability

For beginners and experienced paddlers alike, the FunWater SUP provides exceptional stability. It’s much wider than other boards, coming in at 33″ in length, which provides improved balance and control.

Pros
  • Suitable for people of all levels – beginners, intermediates, and experts.
  • Removable fins for board personalization.
  • Several key accessories included with your purchase.
  • Easy to keep in line and control.
  • 33″ long helps the board be practical and stable, especially whilst practising yoga.
Cons
  • Some have commented on issues with the pump so carry a spare when planning your trip.

3. Advanced Elements Lotus YSUP Yoga Board

*Details last updated on 2021-08-02

With a stunning bright design and extra wide surface (for greater traction), this board is good for those warm days where you want to be out meditating, stretching and yogi’ing on the water. As the name suggests, the Lotus board is perfect for spiritual paddlers and those looking to travel with the board (even coming with a convenient easy to remove shoulder strap).

Control

With the Lotus board, you will have complete control due to its wide length, 6″ deck material, and foam grippers to keep you steady. This board is excellent for Yoga due to its width and rigid performance. This board will remain steady even under the most challenging yoga pose.

Stability

Due to its durable drop stitching material, this board will remain straight even in choppy waters. This board is great for a core workout, as it will remain steady throughout your yoga session. SUP boards are some of the most stable and the best for Yoga due to their wide deck and excellent stability.

Pros
  • Fun bright design.
  • Easy-to-remove shoulder strap to make the board easy to travel with.
  • Great control of the board thanks to 6″ deck.
  • Foam grippers to keep you firmly on the board.
  • Durable and long lasting.
Cons
  • Besides the handy carry case, it doesn’t come with other accessories.

4. Redder Zen Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board

*Details last updated on 2021-08-02

The cool, bright turquoise design on this board makes it to male and female paddlers of all ages. You also benefit from built in bungee ties to secure your gear and accessories to the board (keeping them attached should the board capsize).

Control

Control on the Redder Zen is sufficient and tracks well in calm waters. It is important to note that when a heavier person or two people are on the board, it is difficult to control. Upon turning, the board often hesitated and struggled to complete some turns. Due to its lack of controllability, it would work best in a lake.

Stability

This is a relatively stable board when one person is paddling; however, it is not sufficient with more weight added. It is designed more for speed than for Yoga; however, it is excellent for those with experience. Although the board is striking in looks, its performance leaves a lot to be desired.

Pros
  • Attached bungee ties to secure your accessories/gear to.
  • Great tracking in calm waters.
  • A suitable option for more experienced yoga paddlers.
  • Accessories included (e.g. ankle leash, rucksack, paddle and repair kit).
Cons
  • More suitable for lakes than rivers/the sea.
  • Likely not the best option for beginners.

5. Roc Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board

*Details last updated on 2021-08-02

A modern paddle board perfect for yogis and adventurers. Great for travelling practitioners who want to use their board in a wider range of environments and waters (lakes, rivers and even out on the ocean waves). Featuring a non-slip deck, you can use this board to great effect in your stretch and yoga sessions.

Control

The Roc is an extremely light board; therefore, you may find some difficulty paddling in choppy waters. However, it is excellent for beginners due to its curved nose, which slows the board down. The short nose makes this board great for navigating tight turns for experienced paddlers. Due to its lightweight construction, this board can help you hold almost any yoga pose imaginable.

Stability

Although the Roc is lightweight, it is incredibly stable due to its length of 10″ and short nose. For experienced paddlers, when introduced into any water, the Roc performs without having any issues. The standard three fin design underneath improves stability and allows the board to track straighter.

Pros
  • Light weight board so works best on calmer waters.
  • Curved nose keeps the board moving at a beginner friendly speed.
  • Advanced paddlers can use the shorter design to turn with ease.
  • Three fin design for added balance and tracking.
Cons
  • Beginners will struggle to use this board in rougher and choppier waters.

Review Criteria

In order to thoroughly review each and every board listed in the buyers guide above, we used a select number of review criteria. By looking at each product with the below criteria in mind, before researching their product descriptions and comments left online about them, we could identify and list the best boards for SUP yoga.

Control

One of the most important things to look for in your yoga paddleboard will be control. You need to be able to turn your board as required and to manoeuvre it with ease in between your challenging stretches and positions.

Stability

Stability will be just as important as control when it comes to your yoga board. Without a lot of balance and stability, you will find yourself falling in the water frequently and your yoga sessions will be considerably less enjoyable.

Price

We considered the price of each option above and sought to include boards suitable for paddlers with a wider range of budgets. Pretty much all paddle boards suitable for yoga will set you back a little, but that doesn’t mean you need to spend an absolute fortune! It is good to keep a budget in mind, but seek quality over affordability when it comes to something as important for health and safety as your paddle board selection.

Accessories

Alongside price, what accessories are included with your purchase will be of great importance when it comes which board you buy. We looked for both options with no accessories (which tend to be more affordable), and those with many different accessories.

Choosing The Best Board

When it comes to choosing and buying a yoga paddle board, there is a lot to consider. At times, it can seem overwhelming and even mean that your current yoga sessions aren’t as enjoyable!

As a beginner, you can easily get away with a general paddle board for your water yoga adventures. As you get more advanced and/or you want to take your sessions more seriously, you will want to consider buying a board designed specifically with yoga in mind.

For yoga specifically, look for a board with a planing hull. This means your board will have a more rounded nose, which is great for controlling the board and keeping it stable. It does however mean that it doesn’t cut through the water as effectively, slowing it down considerably.

Next, keep in mind that you will want a thick and wide board. Length will not be such an issue as longer boards are best for speed (not something we are bothered about for SUP yoga). A thick and wide board on the other hand is ideal for buoyancy and balance. For beginners, it is good to look for a board between 32″ and 36″. This will offer you a greater level of control.

Finally, the fins that your board features are not that important for yoga. Regardless on if you have a single fin or 3-fin board, it won’t effect your yoga abilities much. If could be a good idea though to invest in a board with detachable fins. This will mean that, should you choose to do so, you can practise your yoga on land/the bank and in the water.

Jake Dennon

I am an avid sports enthusiast who has been fortunate enough to train with some of the best athletes and coaches in the world.

As a child, I had a keen interest in football (soccer) and regularly played with my friends and for my school. We had an ex England ace coaching us at one point and he really motivated me to make sports a big part of my life.

Moving into my teenage years I tried everything from basketball to weight lifting and everything in between. I was lucky enough to train weekly at a local tennis club who's head coach was a at one point the 9th best player in India and within the top 100 ranked players in the world.

The combat sport coaches I have been trained by have also trained some of the top fighters in the industry. All of these brilliant trainers (and all the ones in between) have shown me just how rewarding keeping fit and healthy can be.
